OLC introduced its UltraGage ID/OD/Wall measurement system in 1981; it was the first product for in-production measurement of medical tubing wall thickness. OLC released the first DOS/PC-based UltraGage system with SPC and feedback control for ID/OD/Wall in 1992, and has since developed a Windows-based system. In 2005, OLC and LaserLinc's management team made the UltraGage product available through LaserLinc sales staff and representatives.
According to lead engineer Rod Bradshaw, the greatest challenges he encountered in developing the UltraGauge+ have been miniaturizing the electronics to support twice the number of transducers, incorporating all of the electronics in approximately the same size chassis, and making the device RoHS compliant. Bradshaw and senior programmer Doug Gardner were instrumental in pushing the UltraGauge+ toward completion. Bradshaw has over 18 years of experience in high-speed digital design; while Gardner has spent much of his 20-year career developing device drivers and highly concurrent software systems.
Users of OLC's Windows-based UltraGage software who prefer not to switch to Total Vu software when they purchase one of the new systems can receive a modified version of the older software. In addition, OLC will continue to provide support services to LaserLinc for the older UltraGage systems.
